Celebrating Students in Guatemala
Students at Lan Vwa are learning more than just math and science. They are learning how to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their communities. This Guatemalan school for the children of coffee farmers recently celebrated students who made the Honor Roll! This was more than just an academic celebration—it highlighted how students are growing into mature young men and women. Teacher Seño Yeanira shared that while good grades are admirable, what matters most is the development of character, confidence and compassion.
Students like Ruth (7th grade) and Ilsia (12th grade) exemplify this growth. Though naturally shy, they are learning to find their voices with the help of their teachers. Outside the classroom, they lead their Sunday School program, guide younger children, and share their faith with joy. At the same time, Yulmi and Emersón (both 9th grade) are stepping into leadership roles. They are learning to build strong relationships and handle challenges with respect and grace.
During a recent service day, students put these lessons into action by serving families in their village—they helped with chores, gathered clean water, prayed with families, and shared meals. Yulmi and Emersón led their groups with kindness, reflecting the school’s mission.
With support from HOPE Coffee, Lan Vwa continues to shape not just strong students, but confident, humble and compassionate servant leaders.
